Young Artist Showcase 2009

Young Artist Showcase – sponsored by:

Overview

As part of its outreach to the community, the Festival Board initiated a new community arts program in 2006 Festival entitled the Young Artist Showcase. Now has just completed its 4th year, this program provides students from the area's five Art Magnet Public Schools (6-12) the opportunity to display their work during the Festival. The Young Artist Showcase will be a juried exhibition and will provide the award winning students and their teachers either gift certificates to an art supplier or actual art supplies (Awards totaling $1700). We will be presenting 8 awards; 1 - Best of Show, 3 - High School Award of Excellence, 3 - Middle School Award of Excellence & 1 -Award of Excellence in Jewelry. This showcase will also assist in promoting the value and significance of the Hillsborough & Pinellas Counties' Art Magnet School programs. In addition, this is a wonderful opportunity to have these young artists interact with the professional artists exhibiting in the Festival by helping them gain valuable experience that may encourage them to pursue artistic careers. The Young Artist Showcase serves not only as a vehicle for arts education enhancement for students, but also informs broader under-served audiences and the general public of the appreciation of art and its creation.

Elementary School students in the area's four Art Magnet Public Schools will also display work from special projects.

School class project: LIVE at the Festival

Each year the festival showcases a onsite class project from an area Art Magnet School. This year's featured school was Blake High School, teacher Lucy Kirk. Students from Blake and attendees created an 8-foot by 4-foot mural of a coral reef. It is composed of fingerprints.
